Art Education, Experience & Relevant Stuff

  • Studied art at Montreal's Musee des beaux arts, Youth Program, (under the direction of Arthur Lismer) from 1961 - 1967
  • As a free-lance commercial artist, performed a broad range of commissions including fashion illustration for STYLE magazine, illustrations for print advertising, poster art and manuscript illustrations
  • Studied visual arts at Sir George Williams University, Fine Arts Program from 1972 - 1974
  • Studied at the Ottawa School of Art under sculptors Almut Lutkenhaus and Puchi Noriega
  • Taught workshops in clay sculpting, drawing and multi-media to adults and children from 1970 - 1995.

  • Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, 1970: artwork now a part of PSBGM Permanent Collection
  • Commissioned by the Canadian Government Exposition Center: calligraphy for the Canada Exhibit at Exposition Jacques Cartier, Paris, 1983
  • Group Exhibit at Dimensions '95, Ottawa City Hall, 1995
  • Solo exhibit at Atrium Gallery, Ontario, 1996
  • Artist-in-residence at The Crucible, 1998 Apples & Art Studio Tour, Eastern Ontario Seaway Valley
  • Group Exhibit at Unfolding Images Gallery, Ottawa, 1999
  • Group Exhibit at Sante Restaurant and Art Gallery, Ottawa, 2000
  • Corporate Commission: commissioned by the Canadian Bar Association, Department of Justice Canada and the Law Commission of Canada to create the Justicia Award, a bronze statue awarded annually for excellence in legal journalism, inaugurated in Halifax, 2000
  • Corporate Commision: selected by the Art Selection Committee, Hillel Lodge, to create two original bronze sculptures, "Celebration of Life", permanent exhibit, installed December 2001
  • Solo Exhibit, "Private Parts", at ArtsCourt, Ottawa, December 2002

Dorothy Love is happy to consider private commissions. Over the last 12 years, she has accepted commissions ranging from jewelry, calligraphic art, multi-media paintings to mixed media, terra cotta and bronze sculpture.

Her pieces are in collections in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Halifax, Boston, Chicago and Miami. She hopes that they continue to give pleasure.
