Opening night will be electric indeed with the Ontario premiere of POWEr by Artificiel (Montreal). Originally commissioned by Mutek for their 10th anniversary, the work involves a live tesla coil on stage to create both the sound and visuals of the performance. Alongside this event a new performance from Ottawa's own Kingdom Shore, a sextet of musicians mixing classical instruments, electronic audio processing, including a special live video performance by Christopher Payne.
Friday night includes a performance by Edmonton's Clinker, who was commissioned to create a live cinema work by the Leonard Cohen Foundation in 2008. The performance focuses on the bass tones in Cohen's voice. Tasman Richardson (Toronto) from the V-Atak label will perform his new electronic performance based entirely on the recorded visuals and sounds of his extensive collection of vintage televisions. We will also have Nohista (Paris, France) from the V-Atak label with live video mash-up of contemporary dance performance.
Saturday is a special spotlight on Montréal's Elektra festival, one of North America's most sophisticated forums for audio-visual performance. We present three performances from Montréal-based artists who have been a part of the development of the Elektra festival over its 11 year history. TIND (This Is Not Design), Herman Kolgen and Purform.
