scratchvideo/design/sources/DIY DIY (do it yourself) is creating content rather than sampling existing images. The term doesn't mean working by yourself, but instead using the tools at hand to fulfill your goals. DIY images allow for complete creative control over all the elements of designing a finished album of scratch video. Creating images also means forgetting concerns about breaking copyright legislation. Using a consumer video camera, editors can create their own content. The applications range from a DIY track of self-produced images and sounds to a VJ using a live camera to include realtime images at a show. Some VJs will only work with images they have shot themselves with cameras. Another form of DIY image construction is using image creation software on a personal computer. CGI stands for computer generated imagery, a medium in which the VJ is able to create and include in a Scratch Video collage anything they can imagine, using any number of software combinations. From stills created in Photoshop to complex 3D animation created in Softimage, scratch video can incorporate these diverse images.
