Artist Statement

My artworks are concerned with the worlds that surround us - the world of pop culture, and the natural and urban-industrial environments.

The use of images of detritus and sometimes the actual objects themselves, as found in the CULTURE TRASH prints, raise questions about how we live, both collectively and individually. The artwork questions what we declare as waste and the language we use about it, which in turn reflects our social values and calls attention to the boundaries and margins of our industrial, urban lifestyles.

The BLACK LEGACY and SPENT INDUSTRY works examine the personal and the public. The WHOSE TRASH, WHO’S TRASH installation piece with its additions of text passages creates multifaceted relationships between the images and the text, which shift and add new layers of meaning.
