Thirteen Strings presents “Sunday Afternoon at the Opera”

Opera Favourites with Special Guest Violinist Alexandre Da Costa

Celebrate the coming of summer with the Thirteen Strings in their final concert of the season: Sunday Afternoon at the Opera on June 3rd at 3 pm at Dominion-Chalmers Church. Special guest is acclaimed violinist Alexandre Da Costa, who’ll be joining the program of opera favourites with works from Handel, Bizet, Wagner, Mozart, Strauss, and Tchaikovsky.
With these famous names so familiar to all, music lovers can expect a delightful afternoon of cherished selections such as Handel’s Overture to Il pastor fido and Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy and excerpts from Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Add Da Costa to the mix and you’ve got magic personified!
Alexandre is presently one of the top and most sought after violinists and soloists in the world. He’s appeared as guest soloist and conductor in more than 2,000 concerts across four continents and over 30 countries in the world’s most prestigious venues with internationally acclaimed orchestras and conductors.
As a recording artist, Montreal-born Alexandre has recorded 25 CDs, among them a JUNO award for “Classical Album of the Year” for his recording of the concertos by American composer Michael Daugherty with the Montreal Symphony under Pedro Halffter for Warner Classics.
