Galerie St-Laurent + Hill is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Danièle Rochon.
Painting to lift me up
Painting to reflect
Painting to avoid succumbing to the mundane
Paint to find the light
Painting so as not to die of boredom
Yes my painter’s gaze is searching for the light. Not for the light in and of itself,
but for the light that one perceives, that one seeks through the
bushes, the vegetation.
My intimate gaze seeks to isolate the blade of grass, the flower, the leaf to throw them into motion whilst preserving the light. In order to do this, I
approach it with discretion by way of nervous and fine brush strokes.
Often I welcome the light on a finely
wrought and dark canvas. I need to know where the light
will break down before anything else. It will be the projector which will illuminate the undergrowth or the minimal detail behind behind a dense vegetation.
Painter, I have to capture it, circumscribe it and project it
generously on the canvas.
Painting to have a ball
Painting to live.
