John Steins takes a straightforward ‘do-it-yourself’ approach to presenting his wood engravings on the Internet. Though he lives in the remote and small community of Dawson, he uses this technology to reach a much larger audience. In his wood engravings Steins represents natural forms that he recalls from a tradition found throughout the Yukon, particularly in nature photography. By presenting his work on the web, he is able to offer it for sale. And by showing the tools involved and demonstrating the printing process, he also shares his knowledge of wood engraving.
