The Absurd
These artists share
a make-do spirit, finding scraps and throw-aways and making something big
out of these small finds. Resourcefulness and inventiveness characterizes
many a Yukoner, as does a satirical sense of humour. In each of these works,
there’s a reaching out for something that can’t be grasped, like Brad Pitt’s
nail clippings (Jickling), and a recognition of the absurdity of
the pursuit, like the Calumet baking powder tin (VanKampen) or the scarf
in the video The Visitor (Connors).
