Hackerspace in the Artengine Lab

Good times ahead for the renegade technologist in you as Artengine has started to work with a loose formation of geeks to bring a new hackerspace to fruition in Ottawa. It's all in very early stages, but we will be meeting again on February 10th in the M70 Lab for a bit of a work and play gathering.

The Hackerspace people have been around for abit, but I think we have found a great complimentary energy and it's going to be good times ahead.

For a view on a much more fully formed Hackerspace check out the Foulab in Montréal. I wish I could be there for their Basic Principles of Refrigeration workshop!

GRL Redux

This time the skies where clear and all was well for our second and more casual efforts at redecorating the exterior of the Rideau Center. Here are some photos of last weeks creative projections. Thanks as always to the amazing Paul Galipeau for working with us on documentation!Look for GRL Ottawa this fall at the Awesome Indies Festival in Hintonburg. It's a great multi-disciplinary festival in a great neighbourhood and we are thrilled to be participating!

Electric Fields Day 4

Four days into the festival, and things are fantastic! Every artist, DJ and volunteer has made this an incredible edition of the festival.

Dark Disco and Timekode where both great parties. Much kudos to Stefan Thompson's live digital illustrations; we are thoroughly enjoying bringing people into Sophie Bélair Cléments eerie empty room; the Technology vs Democracy debate was descended from it's original polar oppositions into more realistic versions of reality . . . and Friday . . . well . . . I am almost speechless. Each artists performed incredibly, and I can guarantee there are very few churchs that have ever looked or sounded like that before. Impressively someone already has video on-line, so you can have just a small glimpse of what you missed. To be honest though, nothing can compare with the resoonence of that space, but if you look closely in the Tvestroy video you can see a strobing Jesus. I think I will just leave it at that.

Carrie Gates and Sean Lamothe are pushing each others buttons

In the deep dark depths of SAW Video Sean and Carrie are making some crazy sounds. The blinking lights made my eye twitch for a while, but in the most lovingly stimulated way. These two have hit it off like I knew they would. Glitches and feedback and so much more. Can't wait to see how this collaboration is going to turn out!

Darsha Hewitt at Arts Court Platinum Party

Galerie SAW Gallery, SAW Video and Artengine presented The Bakery Group, Jokers of The Scene and Darsha Hewitt as part of the Arts Courts 20th anniversary party - Platinum. Here are some photos of Darsha work we took the next day. It was very popular on the night of the event and her work, along with her stylish presentation of it, made their way into the Ottawa Citizen the next day. We will have to post those too.
